Economics â⬠production possibilities curves Essay
Explain how labor possibilities curves gage be apply to demonstrate the problem of unemployment, the effects of technological qualify and the benefits of economic growth.A yield contingency confines (also known as ware possibility curve) represents all the possible factions of the production of two types of goods and function that the frugality can produce at any given time through graphic means. It is used to clearly demonstrate the problem of unemployment, the effects of technological change and the benefits of economic growth of a modified view of an preservation.A typic production possibility frontier is based on four simplifying assumptions1.The sparing only produces two types of goods and services2.The state of technology mud unchanged3.The quantity of resources remains unchanged4.All resources ar fully employedUsing the given assumptions, a production possibility frontier whitethorn be constructed. Fig 1.1 shows all the maximum possible combination of the pr oduction of stalk and cars in an miserliness when all resources are employed. gild must make decisions on which combination is most desirable, and thus, involving an opportunity cost. This is shown at level off C on the track where in order to arrive 40 units of clothing, 50 units of food must be given up. The key AB shows the ideal spot in which an economy should lie as it signifies that all resources are efficiently employed, however in reality, this is often non the case and the problem of unemployment arises. Unemployment in an economy can be clearly identified in a production possibility frontier as the position of the economy would be shifted into the area within the curve. This is demonstrated in Fig 1.1 by X.Economy X is illustrated as producing 100 units of wheat and 40 units of cars, significantly reduced from the potential production of 150 units of wheat or 80 units of cars. This inefficient use of resources negatively impacts on the economy as the potential dou gh of the whole economy is reduced and resources are wasted. The production possibility frontier is able to clearly visualise the relationship between the production of two goods and services and indicate the state of an economy and its allocation of resources thus demonstrate the problem of unemployment and how it affects the economys profit and future implications.A change in the production possibility frontier whitethorn occur with technological improvements. This would often shift the curve in an outward direction, signifying the economy being able to develop a full(prenominal) quantity of goods or services with the same number of resource. In some(prenominal) cases, the technological advancement may only benefit to one of the goods or services. For exemplar, the discovery of a genetic code to harvest wheat quicker result benefit the production of wheat however, having no effect on the production of cars. This is shown in Fig 1.2 by the describe DB where the line is shifted outwards from point A to point D and gradually declining to point B. In this case, 250 units of wheat may be produced as opposed to the master key two hundred units, providing a gain in production, and thus, the economys profits. On the other hand, if the technological advancement benefit both of the goods or services equally, it will cause the curve to shift outwards parallel to the original. An example may be new machinery developed that aids in the production of cars and wheat. This is demonstrated in Fig 1.3 where line AB shifts outwards to line DE. However, this parallel movement of the curve usually occurs with the discovery of new resources.stinting growth refers to an economys capacity to produce more goods and services. Factors of economic growth includes technological improvement discovery of new resources increase in population, thus increase in labour. This may be clearly presented with the production possibility frontier by comparing the curves of a one-time(prenomina l) or present economy to a present or future economy. This may be seen in Fig 1.4 where the curve is stretched outwards and the potential production rate is increased. For example point C on the line AB producing 150 units of wheat and 40 units of cars will be shifted to point F, producing 200 units of wheat and 50 units of cars.Economic growth indicates a benefit to our golf-club as more wants and needs will be satisfied in the society, thus improving the standard of living of individuals in the economy. This implicates that the economy will be able tosupport a larger population and raise better facilities or environment.A production possibility frontier may be described as one of the essential tools in political economy. It allows the attestant to graphically identify the relationships of two different types of goods or services, compare the past/present/future status of an economy and identify the position of the economy in relations to the curve. It demonstrates the problem o f unemployment, the effects of technological changes and the benefits of economic growth.bibliographytim dixon economics textbook

swinish is an important typeface in William Goldings Lord of The Flies. The novel follows a group of boys who crash land on a deserted island. At first, the boys believe that they will be bring through and will soon return to their normal lives. The reality of the situation, is that the world after-school(prenominal) of the island is in war. The island becomes their new home. Using shoats physical features, mental state, and emotional level, Golding makes piglet a symbol of security, and civilization. piggys character plays a major role because he serves as Goldings personification of intelligence, and critical thinking. shote is very important in the story, he is the character that gives the story kind of a mysterious wrestle he is the character that turns the story upside down. He is the smartest on the island, with turn out loutish the island would be a huge mess. piglet from the beginning told the boys how to maintain themselves. Goldings symbolism is strangely in Piggy s appearance. The boys criticize Piggy from when he got on the island all the way up until his death. They nag at him because he is overweight, has asthma, ugly, he has pale skin, and has a speech impediment. This all symbolizes civilization. Without Piggy on the island the boys would be a mess, and they would lack proper thinking abilities. Even though Piggy is the obvious choice for the boys leader, they decide to go for the much athletic, and good-looking one Ralph. Ralph is chosen because the boys didnt equivalent the fact that Piggy was overweight, and lacked all abilities to be a leader. They didnt know or change surface give him a chance to show who he was, had they done that they would cause found out that Piggy is the more mature one out of all the boys he does fall in the ability to be a leader.Piggy in every way seemed older, the boys had hair that kept growing, Piggys was already kickoff to bald because he had handicaps that made him look older then he really was. P iggy is clearly the most mentally stable boy on the island. For example when the boys said there was a beast on the island, Piggy knew that no large animal could possibly sustain itself on the island, not by itself anyways. There is cryptograph on the island, just these boys he tried to tell them that he tried to tell them there is no intimacy to fear. I know there isnt no beastnot with claws and all that I mean- except I know there isnt no fear either (page 84).He tries to tell the boys, that the only thing to be afraid of is themselves. They have all turned into such monsters and they ar the only beasts on the island. Piggy stays calm under contract and thinks through situations clearly and thoughtfully, moreover he is mature and indep annihilateent. Piggy should have been elected leader even though his physical features dont meet the boys standards. All of the other boys constantly go on him alone to fend for himself and take c atomic number 18 of the young boys on the islan d. His independence is a principal factor that keeps him from turning into a monster like the rest of the boys do by the middle of the novel. At the beginning of the boys journey, Piggy found the conch, which is a shell that when blown brought all of the boys into a family meeting. This allowed the conch to toy order and democracy. Until his death, Piggy tries to make the boys stay calm and close. By the end of the novel on the boys have become completely divided, and Piggy and Ralph are completely on their own. Piggys glasses have been stolen by the other boys in the separate group, in his desperate effort to get his glasses back, he expects the talk to be quite peaceful and mature.Thats not what he got, when he got to the boys camp they began screaming at him handicraft him down, and making him feel more useless then he already is without his glasses. During his plead Jack decides it is a smart idea to throw a huge bolder on Piggys head. Im not sure if his clear intentions were to kill Piggy or to scare them away, but it deffinatly resulted in Piggys death. The boys arent very clear and in their own state of mind. They have absoloutly no reassurance in their minds, they dont know what theyre going to do. They have all lost their minds. The bolder that is oppress down on Piggy is a symbol of radical crack-up of civilization, meaning there is no peace anymore. The story kind of took a turn from here, the boys were trying to hunt Ralph, their intentions were to kill him aswell. Piggys character was very important to the story. Piggys personality at the beginning of the novel is exchangeable to his personality at the ending. He became the voice of reason on the island, he likes to get every word he needs to say out. William Goldings Lord of the Flies just wouldnt have been the same if Piggy wasnt in the story, it wouldnt have had the twists and turns it had.

A following right slams his whirl the opposite direction. An uppercut to the jaw snaps his head back, momently stopping the blood flow to his brain. The boxer drops, hitting the mat with a thud. His brain bounces off his skull for the second time in a return of seconds. Is this what we should call a sport? Because of injuries, neurological damage, and ring deaths, the rules of professional package should be changed. Boxing has always been a brutal sport. The ancient Greeks apply gloves studded with metal spikes, which slashed the face and body and split skulls. Although gloves are no longer spiked, boxershorts today sustain injuries ranging from cuts and bruises to broken bones. It is not uncommon to see a boxer leave the ring with a cut on his face, an eye swollen shut, and a nose overdone and bloody. Often, healing in is incomplete because these areas receive the same blows once more and again in other matches. In fact, repeated blows almost cost scrape dick Leonard his sight when his retina detached in his left eye. Besides sciolistic injuries, boxers suffer short-term neurological damage as a result of staggering blows to the head. A knockout punch, for example, is often delivered with such force that the brain smashes against the skull, tearing nerve fibers and blood vessels, resulting in a concussion.Even a blow to the neck can close the carotid arteria, the main artery to the brain, whereby oxygen and blood to the brain are disrupted, resulting in dizziness and confusion. Later, the boxers often have no memory of the moments before or later a knockout blow. In addition to short-term neurological damage, backbreaking blows to the head can induce mor e serious injuries. For instance, Muhammad Ali now suffers from longterm neurological damage as a result of receiving repeated blows to the head. Evidence shows that Ali suffers from neurological damage caused by the blows that accelerated existing damage. As he aged, the boxer whom experts say was the greatest of all could not walk without the aid of a reprimand and could barely speak. Finally, the most serious outcome of continual beatings to the head is death. Ray Mancini retired from boxing after delivering such a crushing blow to the head of Duck-Kim that the end result of the match was death for Duck-Kim. The advent of gloves and protective headgear supposedly offers protection, but even a light punch can snap the boxers head back explosively, causing severe injury or death. Thus, boxing has been a popular sport since the ancient Greeks reveled in observation one opponent physically beat another to death. To lessen the injuries, neurological damages, and deaths occurring from this sport, professional boxing rules need to be changed to those used in surpassing matches, where points are awarded for skill and precise landing of punches, not for physically maiming an opponent. To bear upon allowing the present, legalized assault of boxing to masquerade as another innocent repugn of skill is to remain in barbarism. 1. Celebrities subscribe to a tremendous influence on the young, and for that reason, they gain a obligation to act as role models. I agree with the opinion that the celebrities nominate a responsibility to act as role models. They have seen and heard by millions through television, movies, radio, and the internet. And they whitethorn be inspiring to the young who dream of singing, or acting, celebrities have the topographic point on them because of their high status. In addition, they are not treated the like normal people because they have money, fame, and glory. Their popularity is worldwide, and there are millions of children look up to them. Role models can affect children life in so numerous ways. For example, the children will want to try the smoking an d drinking if the celebrities are of all time appearance themselves as smoker or drunker. On the other hand, if the celebrities are doing things for the environment, politician, and making the changes for the better will effect and enhance the children to have brighter opinion and well-manner. Charles Barkley, a former star on the Phoenix Suns, once said, I am not a role model. Just because I dunk shot a basketball doesnt mean I should raise your kids. Even through, celebrities have a tremendous influence on the young, I also see that it is the parents responsibility to discuss the celebrities culture and keep the communication open with children.

The future(a) morning Elena got up and dressed quietly in the motel room, grateful for the extra sgait. Damon was gone, scarce she had expected that. He usually got his eat early while they were on the road, preying on waitresses at all- night truck gelt or early-morning diners. She was divergence to discuss that with him someday, she thought as she put the piece of g travel of ground coffee in the little two- shape percolator the motel provided. What she understand to do was call back Bonnie and Meredith. She had to talk to them it was her right but now, of all dates, she couldnt. Intuitively, she felt that both contact between her and Fells Church might be bad.And Matt had neer checke d in. Not once. She had no idea where he was on the road, but he had better be in Sedona on time, that was all. He had by design swerve off all communication between them. Fine. As longsighted as he showed up when he had promised. justElena still needed to talk. To express herself.Of course She was an idiot She still had her faithful companion that neer said a word, and never kept her waiting. Pouring herself a cup of scalding black coffee on the centering, Elena dug her diary out of the sound of her duffel bag and opened it to a fresh, clean page. There was naught like a fresh page and an ink pen that ran swimmingly to start her writing.Fifteen minutes later there was a rattling at one window and a minute later Damon was stepping through. He had several paper bags with him and Elena felt unaccountably pleased and homey. She had provided coffee, which was rather good even if it came with dried cream substitute, and Damon had suppliedGasoline, he said triumphantly, raising hi s eyebrows significantly at her as he set the bags on the table. Just in case they try to use plants against us. No, thanks, he added, seeing she was standing with a full cup of coffee held in his direction. I had a service department mechanic while I was buying this. Ill just go lave my hands. And he disappe atomic number 18d, walking right bypast Elena.Walking right past her, without a glance, even though she was wearing her only clean couple up of clothes left jeans and a subtly colored top that looked uninfected at first glance and only in the brightest light revealed that it was ethereally rainbow-shaded.Without a single look, Elena thought, feeling a strange sensation that somehow her purport had just lapped itself. She started to throw the coffee away but then mulish she needed it herself and drank it in a few scalding gulps. Then she went and stood by her diary, drill over the last two or three pages. Are you officious to go? But she was in a state of such stupefaction that not much could make an impression on top of it.What are you doing now? Damon was clearly ready to describe up and going.Getting unloose of something I dont need, Elena said, and flushed the toilet, watching the torn-up bits of her diary swirl round and round before disappearing.I wouldnt worry about the window, though, she said, coming back into the bedroom and slipping her shoes on. And dont get up for a minute, Damon. Ive got to talk to you about something.Oh, come on. It can wait until were on the road, cant it?No, it cant, because weve got to pay for that window. You broke it last night, Damon. But you dont remember doing it, do you?Damon stared at her. She could tell that his first temptation was to laugh. His second temptation, to which he gave in, was to think that she was nuts.Im sober, she said, once he had gotten up and started to pace to ward the window with a distinct look of wanting to be a crow flying out of it. Dont you dare go anywhere, Damon, because theres more.More extort I did that I dont remember? Damon lounged against the wall in one of his old, imperative poses. Maybe I smashed a few guitars, kept the radio on until four A.M.?No. Not necessarily things from last night, Elena said, aspect away. She couldnt look at him. Other things, from other days Like maybe Ive been trying to sabotage this trip all along, he said, his voice laconic. He eyed the ceiling and sighed heavily. Maybe Ive done it just to be entirely with you Shut up, DamonWhere had that come from? Well, she knew that, of course. From her feelings about last night. The problem was that she also had to get some other things settled seriously, if he would take them. Come to think of it, that might be a better way to go about this.Do you think that your feelings about Stefan well, have changed at all lately? Elena asked. What?Do you think oh, this was so difficult looking into black eyeball the color of endless space. Especially when last night they had been full of myriads of stars do you think that youve come to think of him differently? To honor his wishes more than you employ to do?Now Damon was openly examining her, just as she was examining him.Are you serious? he said.Completely, she said, and, with a supreme effort, she sent her shoot downs back where they were hypothetical to go.Something did happen last night, he said. He was looking intently at her face. Didnt it?Something happened, yes, Elena said. It was it was more of a She had to let out her breath, and with that almost everything went.Shinichi Shinichi, che bastardo Imbroglione That thief Im going to kill him slowly Suddenly Damon was everywhere. He was beside her, his hands on her shoulders the next minute he was shouting imprecations out the window, then he was back, memory both her hands. But only one word mattered to Elena. Shinichi. The kitsune with his black, scarlet-tipped hair, who had made them show up so much just for the location of Stefans cell.Mascalzone Maleducato Elena lost track of Damons cursing again. So it was true. Last night had been completely stolen from Damon, taken from his straits as simply and completely as the interval when she had used go of Redemption and Wings of Purification on him. The latter he had agree to. But last night and what other things had the fox been taking? To cut out an entire evening and night and this evening and night in particular, implied thatHe never shut take the connection between my attend and his. He still can reach inside me any time he chooses. Damon had finally stopped swearing, and stopped moving. He was sitting on the couch opposite the bed with his hands drooping between his knees. He looked singularly forlorn.Elena, you have to tell me. What did he take from me last night? Please Damon looked as if he might fall on his knees in front of her, withou t melodrama. If if it was what I think Elena smiled, although tears were still running down her face. It wasnt what anyone would think, exactly, I suppose, she said. But Lets just say that this time was mine, Elena said. If hes stolen anything else from you, or if he tries to do it in the future, then hes fair game. But this depart be my secret. Until maybe someday you break into your huge boulder of secrets, she thought.Until I tear it out of him, along with his tongue and his tail cracked Damon, and it was truly the snarl of an animal. Elena was glad it wasnt directed at her. Dont worry, Damon added in a voice so chilling that it was almost more frightening than the animal fury. I will find him, no matter where he tries to hide. And I will take it from him. I might just take his entire little furry hide off with it. Ill make you a pair of mittens out of it, hows that?Elena move to smile and did a pretty good job. She was just coming to scathe with what had happened herself , although she didnt believe for a minute that Damon would really leave her alone on the subject until he forced the memory back out of Shinichi. She realize that on some level she was punishing Damon for what Shinichi had done, and that was wrong. I promise no one will know about last night, she told herself. Not until Damon does. I wont even tell Bonnie and Meredith. This made things a lot harder on her, and therefore probably more equitable. As they were cleaning up the junk from Damons most recent fit of fury, he suddenly reached up to brush a stray tear from Elenas cheek.Thank you Elena began. Then she stopped. Damon was touching his fingers to his lips.He looked at her, startled and a little disappointed. Then he shrugged. shut up unicorn bait, he said. Did I say that last night?Elena hesitated, then stubborn that his words didnt fall within the crucial time limits of secrecy.Yes, you did. But you wont roll me away, will you? she added, suddenly anxious. Ive promised my friends not to say anything.Damon was staring at her. wherefore should I say anything about anybody? Unless youre talking about the little blonde one?I told you Im not saying anything. Except that obviously Caroline isnt a virgin. Well, with all the ruckus about her being pregnant But you remember, Damon interjected, I came to Fells Church before Stefan did I just lurked in the shadows longer. The way you talked Oh, I know. We liked boys and boys liked us, and we already had reputations. So we just talked any way we felt like talking. Some of it may have been true, but a lot of it you could take two ways and then of course you know how boys talk Damon knew. He nodded.Well and so pretty in short everyone was talking about us as if wed done everything with everyone. They even wrote wring about it in the paper and the yearbook and on the bathroom walls. But we had a little poem, too, and sometimes we even wrote it with our signatures on it. How did it go? Elena ringlet her min d back a year, two years, more. Then she recitedJust because you light upon it, doesnt make it true. Just because you read it, doesnt make it so. The next time that you hear it, it may be about you. Dont think that you can change their minds, just cause you know you knowAs Elena finished, she looked at Damon, suddenly feeling the urgent need to get to Stefan. Were almost there, she said. Lets hurry.
Ray Bradbury Research Paper Essay
Ray Douglas Bradbury was born in Waukegan, Illinois, on August 22, 1920. He is the son of Leonard Spaulding Bradbury and Esther Marie Moberg Bradbury. Ray attended Los Angeles High School. He was active in the drama club and planned to be an actor. Bradburys formal grooming ended with his high school graduation in 1938. However, he act to educate himself by spending his nights in the library. One of Bradburys known works, Fahrenheit 451, was released in 1953. It is set in the future in which a totalitarian government has banned the written word. Today, Ray and Maggie Bradbury continue to stand up in Los Angeles. Ray Bradbury still writes daily and occasionally lectures. At an be on when most men rest on their laurels, Bradbury remains a high-energy floorteller and contributor of obvious answers to impossible futures.(Jepsen and Johnson 4)Ray Bradburys makeup style has alship canal been known to be poetic without being ostentatious it communicates abstract ideas with layman te rms and engages our senses. (Ray Bradbury Board) I enjoy Bradburys handling of irony in stories, but especially in A enunciate of boom out when the killing of a butterfly changes all of civilization. The short story is about this wealthy man named Eckles who pays this time traveling company to trail him indorse to prehistoric times, so he can hunt for a dinosaur. These dinosaurs have been selected beca single-valued function a previous survey indicated that they would stifle very curtly anyway. Although this supposedly gets around the ripple effect, it quite obviously does nota flaw in logic that Bradbury himself undoubtedly recognized.A Sound of Thunder is about a wealthy man who has purchased a spot in a hunting trip named Eckles. The time traveling company doesnt want diseases brought to the past, so they will wear environmental suits and they will likewise be required to walk on an elevated platform. Bradbury provides an excellent verbal description of the ripple effect, showing how one minor change can cipher over thousands of generations until it has the potential to change the world beyond recognition. Only mark dinosaurs are allowed to be killed.Surveys are conducted to see which dinosaurs should be marked and would die naturally anyway. Then, Eckles panics from seeing a tyrannosaurus appear, thus falling reach the platform. The creature is dead, but the guide is still angry because Eckles could have changed the future. sooner they traveled back in time, a heated option ends with a would-be dictator losing, but upon returning, there are few changes in the room, which the group notices as differences for reasons that Bradbury never explains. The most profound difference is that the election outcome is different. The alteration of history occurred because, when Eckles left the path, he inadvertently stepped on and killed a butterfly. ( founder DAmmassa 1)When reading A Sound of Thunder, I notice parts when Bradbury used foreshadowing. One e xample of foreshadowing in Bradburys short story is Lesperances explanation to Eckles on the dangers of small changes in the past having catastrophic effects on the future foreshadow the changes that occur. The constant warnings to stay off the path indicate that Eckles will leave the path. some other archetype of foreshadowing is when Eckles says, Does this campaign guarantee I come back alive? They reply, We guarantee nothing This in my opinion gives me the idea that the safari must be quite dangerous and anyone doing such an activity ask a plethora of courage. There are many examples of foreshadowing in A Sound of Thunder.Ray Bradbury remains a dynamic fibber and contributor of obvious answers to impossible futures.(Jepsen and Johnson 4) He writes stories in compelling ways that involve very complex ideas and he makes it simple to understand speckle still being in an intelligent way. One particular extract Bradbury has stated that I enjoy is, Every morning I ricochet out of bed and step on a landmine. The landmine is me. After the explosion, I spent the rest of the day putting the pieces together.(Ray Bradbury Quote 1) Bradburys use of irony is probably one of his most famous writing traits along with his way of being poetic, without being pretentious.
